Put it on a shelf and forget about it A4 Print

$30.00

Chronic pain is a complex, messy reality. For those outside the chronic illness community, pain is often seen as something that arrives, is treated, and eventually fades. But what happens when pain doesn’t go away? What happens when it becomes so deeply woven into your life that you can no longer remember what it was like to live without it?

Put it on a shelf and forget about it visually explores how pain manifests in my own experience. Like small, seemingly insignificant trinkets gathered over time, these physical embodiments of pain accumulate, silently becoming a burden you carry—unnoticed by others, but all-consuming to you.

As the years pass, this collection becomes exhausting. With each new doctor or specialist, recounting the same list of conditions feels more like a well-worn script. But the punchline is rarely helpful—and often dismissive. For years, I was made to feel as though my pain was "all in my head," a narrative I nearly convinced myself was true.

Eventually, after much trial and error, my specialists and I agreed that the medications were causing more problems than doing good. The solution was to stop treatment and make peace with pain’s constant presence.  Put it on a shelf and try to forget about it.
