Mystery Girl of 1947 Earrings

$60.00

There’s an amazing photo of a woman from 1947 wearing a sash that says ‘mystery girl of 1947’ with a hand painted poster on the wall behind her that says Queen of the Mayhem and I’ve always found it so captivating. I decided to create a few pieces of jewellery based on this image!

I’ve seen this photo floating around the internet for years now and after doing a bit more searching last year found a great article on Pulpinternational.com giving a bit more insight behind the photo.

From Pulp International- The Mystery Writers of America, which was founded in 1945 in New York City and soon expanded to other locations, in its early years used to throw what they called a Clues Party. In November 1947 the party was in Chicago, and the MWA awarded the title of Mystery Girl to the woman who performed best in a scream test—as opposed to screen test. Four contestants—Marybeth Prebis, Betty Rosboro, Bobby Jo Rodgers, and Portia Kubin—let fly with their most bloodcurdling screams, and the winner was Kubin who is pictured.

Made from acrylic and laser cut here in Sydney, I hand paint and glue each piece together with love! Please note that each item is handmade therefore there may not be 100% perfect, but I make sure that each item only leaves in a condition I am happy with. Some pieces may have slight paint imperfections, small bits of noticeable glue, slight scuffs or finger marks on the plastic and little signs that each of these brooches is all hand made by me!

These earrings measure approx 50x45mm.

Postage charges are for standard tracked postage in Australia and international postage is tracked.
